Plastic waste accumulates at the foot of snowy Mount Everest under blue skies

Earthwake mobilizes to clean up Everest

In the Everest valley, Earthwake supports the Tri-Haut pour l'Everest association , to build a recycling center in Pangboche and process the 250 tonnes of plastic waste produced annually by expeditions. Thanks to an injection machine supplied by Earthwake Association, the plastic waste is transformed into yak figurines, which are sold locally to create jobs.

A crusher for Kerkennah fishermen

On the island of Kerkennah off the coast of Tunisia, Earthwake, in partnership with the local municipality, is working to combat plastic pollution caused by abandoned fishing nets in the Mediterranean. These nets generate approximately 600 tons of waste per year. Earthwake Association has deployed a sorting table, a plastic shredder, and a system for packaging the shredded material in this area. The association is now working to identify sustainable outlets for the shredded nets in order to permanently consolidate the supply chain established on the archipelago.

Protecting Nusa Penida: A Small Indonesian Island Battling Plastic Pollution

In Indonesia, on the island of Nusa Penida, Earthwake supports a local waste management initiative. Faced with an influx of one million visitors per year and limited infrastructure, plastic pollution threatens the island’s exceptional biodiversity, particularly manta rays and sea turtles. In partnership with Nusa Penida For Tomorrow and Nomad Nol Plastik, Earthwake is strengthening plastic collection efforts, organizing on-site pre-treatment, and facilitating the transfer of plastic to recycling facilities in Bali and Java.

Earthwake Association works around the world

Earthwake Association works in developing countries that are heavily exposed to plastic pollution, and often face a lack of local solutions.
